Jesus is the beginning and the end. He was there before the creation of the world, in fact He spoke it into existence. The sun, the moon, the animals, the mountains, every colour, every race, He made it all.
Jesus, born of a virgin, entered into history fully God and fully human. Jesus was more than just a good teacher or prophet or the founder of Christianity. He was God in the flesh, God with skin on. In his 33 years walking the earth he showed us what God is like. He loved those considered unlovable, He comforted those who mourn, He gave dignity and honour to the marginalised, to women and to children. He healed those who were sick, gave hope to those who were hopeless and gave grace and forgiveness to sinners. He gave sight to the blind, raised the dead to life and showed us a different way to live. Jesus’ very life challenged the beliefs and values of the day. He taught his followers to love their enemies, to forgive, to give to the poor and love unconditionally. Jesus then died on a cross in our place, taking all our sin, our brokenness and pain and was raised to life mending our broken relationship with God. His death and resurrection are hugely important because they reveal a God who entered into our pain and brokenness, willingly gave His life for us and defeated death by coming back to life. Amazingly, the resurrected Jesus was witnessed by more than 500 people. Without the use of social media, the internet, or even technology, Jesus changed the world. He transformed His generation and every one since. His life, death and resurrection over 2000 years ago is still transforming lives, healing hearts and restoring hope to the world today. |
